 Ineke Mirusia and Ruud
On April 21st, 2012, Mirusia conducted an intimate performance for the benefit of SNF, a foundation which collects monies for charity. We were in the city of Waalwijk in the Dutch province of Noord-Brabant, and had a very enjoyable afternoon in a cozy café, owned and operated by two elderly sisters named Leenheers. We were served an exclusive high tea with lots of delicious snacks and sweets. Mirusia sang several songs which we had never heard before and she told us something about her career beginning at the age of seventeen. We'd like to share our video with you, to which we have added English subtitles. Ruud and Ineke

Strong Return of André Rieu After Burn-out

Ten Years Younger
Strong Return of André Rieu After Burn-out
André Rieu feels more energetic than ever before. The musical leader of the Johann Strauss Orchestra performed this past weekend for the first time after his burn-out two performances in the Danish cities of Odense and Copenhagen. "It was very exciting to be on stage again" he readily admits. "And boy, did I enjoy it!!"
Privé by: Colette Boegman
The Maastricht artist just finished his workout on the treadmill. He also does body building every day and watches his food intake. "For the last three months I have not been sitting in a chair waiting for me to recover, but I have been working extremely hard on my fitness. And the result is; "I am eight kilo’s (17.6 lbs) lighter and feel ten years younger." Mid way January everything all of the sudden became too much for the hardworking André. "At night while in bed, I had terrible problems with dizziness. That was the moment when I realized I could not go on any longer. The entire room was spinning."

The musical leader was being tested and tested. "But no results. Yes, I did receive the shock of my life when during an exam at the doctor’s I stepped on the sale. 97.2 Kilos (213 lbs) I have always been around 80 kilos (176 lbs). When all the doctors assured me there was nothing wrong with my health, I started working on myself.

DUMBBELLS

He continues: "I had not done any sports in the past ten years. Actually I do not know why. Something like that just sneaks in I can remember when I watched Bram Moszkowicz’s father on our black and white TV. He was there every day in front of the mirror with his dumbbells. That what I want to do too, I then thought. But it actually never happened.

But for the past two and a half months, André has been making time for that. "I already notice the difference. My energy was all gone because I did not work on myself. In my normal way of life I had difficulties making it to the end of the day, let alone having enough energy to be on stage. While I prefer doing just that.

Together with a personal coach André fought his way back. "Every day I make time for myself, move a lot and eat healthier. I am not on a diet, because then I will be back to my previous weight in no time. To adjust your daily meals, that is the secret. And leave the pastries alone. With every review I was offered a piece of pastry. That can no longer be." Now that André looks back upon this annoying but instructive episode, he feels he should have intervened sooner.

The Christmas special did me in ...

"I never realized I was over-tired. Looking back I think it was the Christmas special that did me in. I had my doubts about that project, but gave in because the record company wanted to introduce me this way to the American audiences. It was extremely hard work, every day until three or four in the morning and then back and forth to America. No, that could never go well." "It turned out to be a very nice special where they covered everything in snow" André thinks. "But I look at it from a different angle. More so since from the very beginning I had my doubts. When they now say: "With this show you will break through in America, "I tell them "Let John Doe have a nice breakthrough. I am indifferent to that and would say "no" more frequently."

PIZZERIA

André received a lot of support from his environment and his fans. "My wife Marjorie said: "Whatever happens, I will always love you. And if we cannot do this anymore, we will just do something else. We will open that pizzeria which we always talked about earlier." "I received a lot of strength from that. And also from all the heartwarming mails and cards from all over the world. Sometimes people tell me: "I have had the same experience. Don’t drink Cola light anymore" André says laughingly. "All information received was well-intentioned."

Shortly Rieu and his company will go to Germany for various shows. These are in preparation for his all important Brazilian tour, which is on the schedule for the end of May. They will be his first concerts in South America. "And in between I want to catch up on the postponed concerts. On 22, 23, 24 and 26 June I will be performing on the Vrijthof in Maastricht and on 30 November in the Ziggo Dome (in Amsterdam) and on 22 December in the Ahoy (in Rotterdam).

"But I watch myself. What happened to me in January will not happen again. I am sure of that. The first 60 years I have been messing around, but the next 60 years will be organized. That will give tranquility." André starts to laugh: "Two weeks ago, my son Pierre also started body building. And now that I feel ten years younger, he of course cannot stay behind."

Carmen will be performing this June in Maastricht! She will also be touring again with André later this year.
Mirusia will be going solo this July in Australia. But she shall also tour with André every now and then in the future.
It's nice that André supports the sopranos to pursue a career of their own, but they are also welcome to tour with him now and then ... We will miss Mirusia, but wish her all the best! And we look forward to seeing Carmen on tour again.

André Rieu His Old Self Again

April 19, 2012: AMSTERDAM - Andre Rieu is his old self again. The 62-year-old violinist, who since earlier this year has been struggling with his health, will again be on the stage this Friday.
"I just did too many things," Rieu tells RTL Boulevard.
In January Rieu was struggling with the flu, after which he again began suffering from a balance disorder. In 2010 the violinist was also out of circulation for some time due to an infection on his equilibrium. "That's just my weak spot. If I am overworked and I tour a lot, which I had done again, the entire room starts to spin."
The musician emphasizes that all is going well with him again. "I have been working on my problem and thankfully it is all gone."Friday Rieu will be on stage again in Denmark, and in June the Limburger will be back on his beloved Vrijthof in Maastrich.

Rieu has not only worked on his equilibrium, but he has also taking his weight under consideration. "I was much too heavy, and totally out of shape", revealed the violinist. In preparation for his comeback Rieu lost seven kilo's (15lbs). "Before I participated a lot in sports, but I squandered that away.I have no idea why."
Rieu is totally involved in sports again."I never took time out for myself. Now I do something with sport every day: bodybuilding, running, tennis. That in itself is taking time out for yourself. And that I am doing again."

André Rieu Announces Comeback After illness.

André Rieu Announces Comeback After illness.
World famous violinist says he “can’t wait!!”
April 11, 2012 Showbiz: It’s in the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen that Maastricht born number 1 classical musician Andre Rieu will perform his first concert, after a long period of illness and misery.
On his website Andre told his fans: “I want to thank you for your love and support. I’m overwhelmed by all the sweet get well messages, cards and gifts. Although the best remedy for now is taking a lot of rest and doing special exercises, your support really means a lot to me and does me well! Music is my life, so I hope I will be able to perform for you all soon again. My next concert will be on the 20th of April in Denmark, I hope to see you there or at one of the following concerts later this year!”
The illness has mainly been caused by many years of non stop working the strain of touring. Rieu’s workaholic lifestyle stems from his childhood. Rieu had a tough upbringing with a strict conductor father who drilled him to follow in his footsteps. Rieu says it made him who he is today. Right now he has sold 35 million CDs and DVDs with the Johann Strauss Orchestra over a recording career spanning 18 years. Currently, Andre Rieu is the greatest pop star of classical music.
Rieu says: “As a teenager the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and miniskirts were forbidden to me. And I was always dreaming of beautiful girls. So, I built my own world in my mind. My dream was to be on stage and play beautiful things. Strauss was the first pop star. Before him, you just had a minuet. With the waltz, the dancers started playing with their partners. The church found it obscene and forbade the waltz. Strauss was a genius, his pieces are so amazing, so bright, so cheerful … You have to get up and dance when you hear these waltzes. Did you know that they sent a rocket into space with a disc of Bach? They should have sent one of Strauss, then the aliens could waltz!”
It’s because of the the waltz that Andre Rieu could realize his dream to popularize classical music. It’s theater, happy, noisy and full of extra-musical attractions such as ballet, comedians, ice skiing, as well as costumes and sets evoking the heydays of the waltz in Vienna. On stage, he undresses the accuracy of a conductor-violinist to play with the audience and musicians. A type of spectacle that fills arenas throughout the world, has been released on 35 DVDs, but there does not generate much prestige among critics, always tough on what they see as an excesses of kitsch and crossover.
It does not trouble Rieu: “From the top of the stage I see the audience. Young and old, the janitor and the teacher, every kind of person who wants to open their heart. Everyone but the critics, who are there to be critical. I know I do my job with honesty and education. What’s wrong with that? When I founded the Johann Strauss Orchestra, I was a violinist planning to release an album of waltzes to submit to the general public. I invited record company executives for the concerts and almost always got the same answer: a disc with waltzes? Go back to your grandmother! It took seven years before a guy went to a concert. The next day he invited me to record. I thought the CD would sell about five thousand copies in the Netherlands. That year, we sold 950,000 discs.”
Even after his illness Rieu isn’t thinking about slowing down: “Touring the world is my life. Because I’m not a hit artist, I have to do many concerts. All that exists for me is good music and bad music. Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna … they are all fantastic. So am I going to say “um, no, this is not classical music …?” The great thing of being on stage is to see how people are happy. I always come onstage very nervous, but just see the faces of the audience to calm myself down.
Millions of fans worldwide eagerly await the return of their favourite musician, so this is no small scale comeback. Starting in Denmark the king of waltz will then travel to Brazil where he will play 12 mega concerts in Sao Paulo.
It does not seem André has learned much from the two complete burn outs he has suffered in the last two years, that forced him to stop working completely.
His friend Mirusia Louwerse says: “André draws new strength from day to day. We are looking forward to the upcoming concerts.”

"Comeback" of André Rieu on April 20th in Odense Denmark

"Comeback" of André Rieu on April 20th in Odense Denmark

Maastricht Aktueel: The Maastricht world star will after a long period of absence give his first concert in the birthplace of the world famous fairy tale writer Hans Christian Andersen.

Through its web site André Rieu has sent the world a "thank you" to all who wrote him, sent him flowers and greeting cards during this recent period. The world famous Maastricht citizen has been struggling for some time now with his health. The primary cause of his absence has been the fact that for many years he had been taking on an enormous amount of intensive work.
Just before Easter, André Rieu sent the following message to his fans: "I am overwhelmed by all the lovely get well wishes, cards and flowers. While taking rests and doing special exercises for now is the best remedy, your support means a awful lot to me and it makes me feel good! Thank you! "

Many thousands of worldwide fans are eagerly awaiting the return of their favorite musician.
In the meantime, Rieu and Co have been working silently on his "comeback". The first concert that he will be back on stage this spring together with his Johann Strauss Orchestra and soloists, will be 20 April. That day he will be on the stage in second city of Denmark: Odense. In the birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen, the Maastricht stand-alone violinist will let a serious restart of his fabulous fairytale like career take place. With the 12 mega concerts scheduled for Sao Paulo, Brazil this will be a good opportunity for Rieu to test as to how he has found a balance between his passion for music, his penchant for perfectionism and now also the required combination of toning down and relaxation.

André Rieu is Becoming Stronger Every Day!

André is Becoming Stronger Every Day

In the past two years, due to serious illness, musician André Rieu (62) has had to take a break from the stage. But now the Waltz King is doing much better, and has overcome his illness! This month he will celebrate his big comeback.

In the past months, Rieu has had to cancel appearances and had to retire exhausted to his Maastricht castle. Since 2010 he has had to take several breaks due to a virus which had affected his vestibular system. But here is the following message: "Waltz King André Rieu is doing much better now after his serious illness. Fans can breathe easier now, but the illness can return again at any time.

"André is becoming stronger every day."

His recovery was confirmed by Rieu's best friend Mirusia Louwerse in "The Golden Sheet". André is becoming stronger every day. We are already looking forward to the upcoming concerts." The loving care of his wife, Marjorie assisted immensely in his recovery. She took good care of him and ensured everything was properly done in order for André Rieu to be healthy again.
