RTL4 Interview With Pierre Rieu on André Rieu's Illness

In the Dutch RTL4 program Boulevard of Monday August 30, 2010, Pierre tells a bit more about the illness of his father André Rieu. His hard work in the recent past has affected his condition and made him susceptible to the virus infection he has at this moment. Doctors predict that this discomfort lasts for two to three weeks, so in a week or so he will be back to work. A bit of rest, medicine and comfort from the people around him is all he needs ... Ruud

Watch André Rieu's Three Hour Interview on Classical Radio

Watch André Rieu's Three Hour Interview Now With English Subtitles!!
On July 22nd, 2010 André took part in a three hour marathon interview. This interview was held in his castle and was broadcast live on Radio 4, the Dutch classical channel. At the same time the interview could been seen on the website of the radio program. You not only see André and the interviewer Maartje van Weegen, but also nice pictures of Maastricht and the surroundings of the castle.
We have removed much of the music (selected by André) to shorten the total length of the video. The interview will however give an impression of André's music choice. In the third part there is also an interview with Marjorie, but she does not appear in the video. For those who want to enjoy André's music choice, we have added a fourth video containing all musical pieces. Enjoy this selection and pictures of Maastricht and the surroundings of the castle ... Ruud
A Big thanks to Ineke and John for The Marathon Translation of This Marathon Interview! ... Click on the link to watch it: http://www.andrerieu-movies.com/Three_hours.html

Meanwhile, my days have been filled with travel, adventure, the discovery of new countries – accompanied all the way by music. Make sure you get a copy. Order (PAL) Here: http://www.getmusic.com.au/artist/music/detail.aspx?pid=64586&aid=13774

For Those Who Watched The ZDF Special in Europe

I thought if I put this here it would give a place for those of you who saw the Maastricht Special on ZDF to write and tell all of us who couldn't see it, what you thought of it! :)

Romantic Europe Cruise and Meet André Rieu

A Romantic Cruise in Europe and Meet André Rieu
THE TOUR includes admission to two wonderful André Rieu concerts, given in his two favorite venues, Vienna, Austria, the birthplace of the enchanting ambience conjured up by his music, and Maastricht in the Netherlands, his beloved hometown. If you have never seen the maestro live, you are about to find out that he really means it when he says music is a magnificent obsession in his life.
Experience Maastricht's rich culture, soak up its unique atmosphere, history and architecture and you'll realize why André Rieu waxes so lyrically about his hometown. Anyone spending a summer's day enjoying its sedate and friendly ambiance will understand how this small city with a population of just 120,000 can attract over 2.5 million visitors every year to enjoy its hospitality. Wander through its cobbled streets, stop for coffee and 'vlaai', the delicious local specialty of fruit pie, at one of the many sidewalk cafés or bars. These won't be difficult to find either; no other Dutch city has as many bars per square mile as Maastricht! But the icing on the cake of your visit will surely be your second chance to enjoy an André Rieu concert, but this time he'll be playing to a largely home crowd. Just like Vienna, playing in Maastricht occupies a special place in his heart, and it always shows.

New André Rieu Book "King of The Waltz" by AD

AD Book ~ Thirty Year Jubilee of André Rieu
From AD ~ Algemeen Dagblad, Dutch newspaper

What an honor to receive such a beautiful book from the AD to celebrate my 30th Anniversary on stage! I am almost embarrassed. When such a book is published about your career, it seems like you should have worked very hard for 30 years. And these past 30 years really seemed like one big party, they actually flew by. It is fantastic to perform night after night for an audience of thousands and afterwards see them happy while returning home. I cannot imagine a better life. It is something to be very grateful for.
In the first place, I like to thank my audience for the heartwarming applause received after each concert for all those 30 years. That is the greatest form of appreciation an artist can get. I like to thank the AD from the bottom of my heart, since they have been able to summarize and visualize those 30 years in such a brilliant way.
Actually I only have one purpose in life, to make as many people as possible happy with music. "May I be allowed to continue on with this for a long time" ... André Rieu
About the New Book: There are a lot of highlights from several concerts on the DVD: the Semper Opera in Leipzig (Dancing Through The Skies), a lot of waltzing from Vienna (Schönbrunn and Hofburg). Of course the book is called, 'The King of The Waltz'. Also on the DVD is, 'My Way' (Radio City Music Hall), 'Amazing Grace' with the bagpipers and 'You'll Never Walk Alone'.
The last part of the DVD is "Behind The Scenes" which we have never seen before!!! So that is all completely new to us. Very nice, but it is of course in Dutch without subtitles. We see Frank Steijns playing the piano, while André is rehearsing the song "Mama" with the Three Tenors. We hear why André changed the original idea of calling a new CD "Songs For My Mum" (changed to "You Raise Me Up"). We see the Dutch jet set photographer, Govert Roos taking pictures of André in his garden and orangerie. And we hear André and Pierre talk about the birth of the twins while André was performing in Australia ... Ineke
Ruud and I will start sending the books off on Thursday August 19th to those who ordered them from us. Depending on the distance as to where you live, you may expect to receive the book(s) in a couple of days /weeks ...

André Rieu's Article in "Eigen Bedrijf" Magazine

André Rieu's August Article in "Eigen Bedrijf" Magazine

Creativity, vision, financial acumen and guts are often cited as essential properties for an entrepreneur. I want to add one more to that: improvisational skills. My God, I was a nervous wreck when the Icelandic ash cloud disrupted air traffic. Our forty crew members, responsible for the sets, technology and logistics, were gathered at the gate when they heard that their flight had been canceled. Booking another flight was impossible. No crew, no concert. Furthermore, I and my entire orchestra also had to find a way to Cape Town. In short, our South African tour was in jeopardy.
It is fascinating to see what happens next. The entire "Rieu-management" gets on the phone. Friends and acquaintances become involved, one Googles, calls are made and negotiated. Great euphoria when finally a charter of a DC 9 for the next day's departure from Barcelona is accomplished. Quickly four buses with the women's clothing and the microphones are arranged and will depart ahead of us towards the Spanish coast. Everyone can breathe easy again. But then suddenly the Barcelona airport is closed and our DC 9 is allowed to depart from Maastricht! The latter is good news since the sooner we get to South Africa, the better off we will be. But a new logistical dilemma presents itself: how do we get the dresses and microphones, which are neatly waiting for us in Barcelona, to South Africa? To resolve this issue some improvisational and organizational skills come into play. Exactly two hours before the start of the concert the last of the materials arrive.
It's amazing what you as a team can accomplish when the need is there. Thanks to some loyal suppliers and partners from our company, people who like to help and entrepreneurs who like to contribute. So we in turn wanted to help three Dutch travel agents who had ninety passengers stranded in Cape Town. Aha, we thought, one and one is two. "Our" DC 9 came over full, but would fly back empty the next day. No problem, I thought, we can bring back a number of passengers. "No problem there," said the representative of the charter company, "we'll do it! For a thousand euros per person." I do not know what you think of that, but that is not the entrepreneurial ethic that I love.
Once home it was a relief to be dining with Benoit Wesly again, a successful Maastricht hotel and restaurant entrepreneur. He told me he was very moved by the TV broadcast - our weekly road soap aired by the TROS - about our performance with the African children's choir. I told him that we are very busy in bringing the children to the Netherlands for the Vrijthof Concerts. "Do they eat?", was his first question and his second was: "Do they have somewhere to sleep? Leave that to me. I'll make sure all their accommodations are taken care off." "Please add yet another essential entrepreneurial characteristic to the list: selflessness. Simply stated since there is happiness in that and is not done for the profits ... André Rieu

André Rieu Crowned "Burgundian of the Year."

Maastricht Violinist Crowned
*Burgundian Title For André Rieu

His trophy cabinet is quite full with trophies, medals and other medals of honor. Since yesterday the Maastricht violinist André Rieu can also add to that the title of "Burgundian of the Year."
This is what the jury of the event's region 's Hertogenbosch published. The leader of the Johann Strauss Orchestra succeeds Thérèse Boer, wife of the well know master chef Jonnie Boer in this honor. Rieu was chosen because of his knowledge of Burgundian delights and gastronomy. Which is evident by viewing his web site where the violinist has published some of his favorite recipes.
On August 28, Rieu will perform in the Thiaff in Heerenveen and on 4 September in the Amsterdam Arena. A summary of his concerts in Maastricht will be broadcast by the German television station ZDF on 21 August.
Note: The "Burgundian's Hetogenbosch" is a yearly outdoor culinary event which takes place on the Parade, in the shadows of the Basilca Catherdral St. John's in Hertogenbosch, the Netherlands.
Thanks to John for the Translation on this article.
*The word "Burgundian" refers to someone from the Burgundy region in France, which is particularly well known for its culinary specialties.
