André Rieu in South Africa Episode 5

André Rieu in South Africa Episode 5

In the fifth episode, André visits the clipper "StadAmsterdam" (City of Amsterdam). This ship sails around the world and follows the original trip, which Charles Darwin did on the "Beagle". The clipper happened to be in Cape Town when André and the JSO played there. Of course, André invited the scientists to attend the concert. The orchestra has some time to spare and visits the "Cape of Good Hope". Enjoying the view and buying souvenirs. Bela liked to buy a belt made of crocodile hide, but for the price André is convinced that it is made of a cheaper material. Success for Kimi singing "African Dreams" and a big surprise for a South African radio broadcaster, never seen someone look that flabbergasted ... Ruud

André Rieu at The Classical Brit Awards

André Rieu Permorms at The 2010 Classical Brit Awards

It was nice to have some culture on TV for a change. The whole show was a delight, the artists, the songs and the settings. The Royal Albert Hall was packed with the audience waiting in anticipation for the show to start and then like a bolt from the blue the stage is filled with André Rieu and the JSO with a rousing version of the "Radetzky March". The audience loved it and participated with the usual hand clapping filling the hall. This was followed by "Strauss & Co" which has now become an important part of André's Concerts. Again the audience loved it and were swaying in time, with the orchestra really enjoying it just as much, complete with the trombone balancing act, which is now part of the André Tradition.

To me it seemed that André once again brought happiness to the audience with loads of smiling faces. As André says, classical music can be fun. This can only boost the popularity of his forthcoming tour of the UK in September.

On top of all this some of the advertisements were of André Rieu's latest release here of a 4 CD Set of the Australian Concerts.

A brilliant show by all artists, in particular Kiri Te Kanawa and the band of the Coldstream Guards playing "Nimrod" and "The Dambusters March" and André Rieu!! He has London at his feet ... Peter Weeks

André Rieu: The Billboard Questions and Answers

André Rieu: The Billboard Questions and Answers

The executives at André Rieu Productions are fond of calling their multimillion-selling boss "the most popular unknown artist in the world." They had better start thinking of a new sobrique. That in-house nickname may have once accurately described Rieu, the Dutch Master of the Waltzing Violin who has built a global following with his live performances. But with global CD and DVD sales estimated by his company at 30 million, the number of territories in which Rieu remains "unknown" is shrinking fast .......

André Rieu Will Make Cape Town's Parade Waltz 2011

Violin King André Rieu Will Make The Parade Waltz Next Year

Cape Town, May 3, 2010 from "Die Burger" by Marelize Potgieter.

The eyes of one hundred million people all over the world will be focused on Cape Town, when André Rieu records his next concert DVD in Cape Town.

Approximately 13.000 people are expected to attend the concert next year on 26 March 2011 on the Parade, where the Dutch violinist and waltz king will perform. The background of his concert will be the Table Mountain, the old Town Hall and the Castle.

The open air performance will take the breath of his fans away. His own special stage will be flown in. He will be assisted by top technicians and film crew, who will ensure a smooth running concert as well as film the entire performance.

According to Mr. Sam Hendriks, manager of Hunta Live, whose company organizes all the performances, this will be one of the biggest events ever held on the Parade.

Rieu is well known for his open air concerts and has performed on most of the big squares in the world.

The audience can enjoy the performance with a snack and a glass of wine in the open air. His performances will be very special, with a real South African touch, said Hendriks.

Rieu will start his tour on March 18 2011 in Sun City, after which he will travel to Durban and Cape Town. It may also be possible that he'll perform in Port Elizabeth and Bloemfontein.

Tickets for the Cape Town concert may be ordered as of today through
www.computicket.com .

According to Mrs. Anneke van der Westhuizen (also from Hunta Live), Rieu indicated that he'd like to make the concert in Cape Town more accessible for the residents, and that cheaper tickets will also be available.

According to Mr. Cronjé, (director of communications of Cape Town city council), the council is very happy that Rieu selected the historic Parade for the recording of his next concert.
That way beautiful images of Cape Town will be spread all over the world and they will be seen in people’s homes. Those same images will be seen by enthusiastic soccer fans during the World Soccer Championship in South Africa in June 2010. The Parade will be the center of festivities in Cape Town.

Rieu has fans from all over the world and his partnership with Cape Town is something to look forward to.

Cape Town's Carillon in André Rieu's Next Concert

Cape Town's Carillon in Andre's Next Concert

May 3, 2010 Cape Town, from "Die Burger" by Marelize Potgieter.

The Historic Bells in the Town Hall of Cape Town will probably play a part in André's open air concert on the Parade next year.

The world famous carillon player Frank Steijns, who is a member of Rieu's orchestra, discovered the bells last Sunday. He, Rieu and a camera crew, went to the Parade to make plans for the concert of March 26, 2011.

During that visit Steijns went up into the Clock Tower to play the song "African Dream", which is part of the concert program. He played so enthusiastically, that one of the ropes broke.

Steijns received international fame as a carillon player when he played the bells in the church tower during the first Vrijthof concert in Maastricht. He performed "Concerto d'Aranjuez", which is a classical guitar piece.

According to Mr. Cronjé, spokesperson for the city council, the two musicians were very impressed with the quality of the bells and they believe they can compete with the best in Europe.

The carillon was purchased in the 1920's, has 39 bells with an approximate weight of 18 tons. Every bell is engraved with the name of battlefields of soldiers who died in the first World War.

André Rieu Raises The Roof!

Even Natural Disasters Can't Keep Waltz King André Rieu From Taking His Music To The World

André Rieu used to be unstoppable but the volcano that shut down the world also froze Rieu a tireless recording artist and touring machine in his tracks. "I hate that volcano Rieu 60 says from Cape Town it caused me so much trouble". A bus trip from his home in Maastricht The Netherlands, to Barcelona Spain - the only airport open during the ash crisis - was planned then aborted. In desperation Rieu chartered a jet to fly him and orchestra from Maastricht to South Africa. "It was extremely expensive" he says "but you need to do these things. I am about finding solutions". Walt King Rieu has found a global audience for feel good classical music. Rieu's shows have broken box office records world wide. He is one of the biggest selling artists in Australia. He and wife Marjorie run the Rieu Empire. She often has the deciding vote on songs and tours. André and Marjorie have two sons and three baby grandchildren.

I love being a grandfather. I did not imagine it would be this fantastic. We have the advantage of being grandparents without getting up at night to deal with crying babies. That is the real joy.

Aspiration is very important to me. I think of myself as a - how do you say in English, when somebody is ill you make them better? A healer. I'm a positive man, I always see the positive side of life. I always think there is a way to solve things.

I always start the day with music. When I make a record, Marjorie and I sit at the breakfast table, we have our toast and coffee and we listen with fresh ears. I never listen to my music when we come out of the studio. We wait until the morning. You hear a lot of things you don't hear in the evening. I listen very much to her advice and her tastes. I'm a musician, so sometimes I don't hear things because I am too much involved. She hears it with her ears. She is always right.

I want to perform at the AFL Grand Final. Let's arrange this. I will keep the date open. In Holland I played at a football match and started to sell a lot of records. That's where it really began for me. I still remember how the people waved their flags and swayed to the music.

I will write a football waltz for it. That will be difficult. This is what I do. (laughs). It will be a melody that everybody can sing.

I cannot lie. You can see what I'm thinking by looking at me. Some critics think everything I do on stage with my orchestra is all fake. It's not true. They think my orchestra are contracted to laugh or be joyful. That's not possible. You must be honest when you perform 120 times a year. It's so tiring to every night to play a role like it's the Theatre. I'm real.

I want my music to raise people up. That is the name of my new album You Raise Me Up. I like the feelings of that title. Let the music fill your spirit. That's what I wanted to say.

I think to play a good waltz is to play it with humour ... and a lot of joy, a lot of melancholy, a lot of feelings. That's what I love in a waltz. When you play a good waltz an audience cannot sit, or be indifferent. They have to be involved. A good waltz can grab an audience like no other.

I celebrated two Mother's Days in Australia. Last year and the year before. This year, I will be home. I love and respect my Mother, who gave me this life. I love and respect Marjorie. I could not imagine a better Mother to raise my children. Now she is a grandmother for my grandchildren. She is wise and adorable ... like most Mother's are.

You Raise Me Up (Universal) is out now.
André Rieu, Rod Laver Arena, October 17th.
The Live in Maastricht concert will be streamed into selected cinema's on July 18th at 11:00am and 4:00pm.

André Rieu's Heartstrings Touched by South African Fans

...
RIEU'S Heartstrings Deeply Touched by South African Audiences
JOHANNESBURG: "I have never had such an emotional experience as with the South African audience", said André Rieu after his first performance in the Super bowl at Sun City.

His tour for next year has already been made public. He will perform again on 18 and 19 March, but his largest concert will be on the "Parade" in Cape Town.

A DVD recording will also be made, titled "André Rieu live in South Africa". It will follow the pattern of the typical André Rieu DVD's of his performances around the world, which will be devoured by South Africans.

Ticket sales for the performances at Sun City have already started and ticket sales for the parade performances will begin May 3rd through Computicket.

Yesterday's performance in Sun City had a few places left in the area to the right of the stage. Durban will also have a performance for which tickets will be available today.

The South African "Diamond", the 31-year-old Cape Town opera soprano, who is also performing with Rieu, brought tears to his eyes when he first heard her sing.

Sunday afternoon in the Super bowl, tears were visibly running down his cheeks, and he truly had difficulties controlling his emotions when Kimmy Skota, a member of the Xhosa tribe, sang the song "My African Dream".

According to Rieu, the entire orchestra was very emotionally when they first heard her sing. "Her voice is so pure". He has already asked her to perform with him in his hometown of Maastricht in the Netherlands.

Africa, South Africa ... Rieu has taken the audiences by storm.

"The audience was the best we have ever had. We very much look forward to many more concerts in South Africa".
